Custom-Built Floral Lighting fixtures

Based on a sketch provided by Kemble Interiors, a pair of these Directoire* floral lighting fixtures was designed & hand-built by Michael Krauss of Authentic Designs. Once sketches and prototypes had been approved by designer Heidi Bianco at Kemble Interior, we got to work.

The leaf detail was hand cut & raised using a vintage hand-operated beading machine. The brass substructure was spun on the lathe in our shop, and curves were created on a beak-horn stake. All details were hand cut, and much of the raising work was done on 19th-century equipment. All colorizing was done in-house, including application & sealing of the verdigris color.

* Note: Regarding the period and style of the design, we have heard it variously described as Directoire (1790-95) Regency / Empire (1800-1815) and Neo-Classical. Our handy go-to guides (including a helpful timeline of lighting history from This Old House) have proven . . . inconclusive on the matter.
